Call for Participation in Tribute to Afghanistan Veterans

The Royal British Legion is calling out to veterans of the conflict in Afghanistan to take part in a parade marking the end of combat operations in the country and honouring the contribution of all who served there.

A national commemorative event is to take place in London on Friday March 13 consisting of a 'Service of Thanksgiving' at St Paul's Cathedral attended by Her Majesty The Queen, followed by a march by members of the Armed Forces from St Paul's to London's Guildhall.

The service will pay tribute to members of the Armed Forces past and present who served on operations in Afghanistan, and will also reflect on the 453 service men and women who lost their lives during that campaign.

The Royal British Legion has been asked to provide a contingent of approximately 400 veterans who took part in military operations in Afghanistan to march as a separate detachment in the parade.

At the conclusion of the march, the veteran contingent will be transported to Wellington Barracks where the Legion will host a lunch reception in their honour. Close family members will also be invited to join them at this reception.

The service at St Paul’s Cathedral and the parade will be broadcast live on BBC One from 10.30am.
