"Cameron a Foreign Policy Irrelevance"
A senior British general has accused David Cameron of being a "foreign policy irrelevance" who is "nowhere to be seen" whilst other world leaders attempt to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
The leaders of France and Germany are due in Moscow later to outline a peace plan to President Putin.
General Sir Richard Shirreff, who until last year was NATO's Deputy Supreme Commander in Europe, said it was "the most serious crisis" to have faced the continent for almost 50 years.
Britain's Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, meanwhile, has warned the US against sending weapons to Ukraine to fight pro-Russian separatist rebels.
He told Reuters News Agency it would only serve to escalate the violence further at a time when Russian military planners may be lowering the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons.
Sarah Lockett reports.
It comes as a British diplomat warned that the crisis in the Middle East caused by Islamic State could last for another 15 years.
Sir John Jenkins, who recently retired as the UK's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, warned that the threat posed by IS was potentially the gravest situation facing the region since the end of the Second World War.
His comments come as Mr Cameron admitted the challenge of Islamist extremism would take 'years rather than months' to tackle.
