A Chance For Reservists To Impress The Boss
There was a different role for the Royal Navy's flagship HMS Bulwark on her last day in Greenwich, after a four-day visit to London.
Her crew welcomed on board a group of London businesses that have shown support for the military community.
This reinforced the benefits that military personnel such as reservists, veterans, and other halves in the military bring to the workplace, as well as strengthening ties between employers and the forces.
Many had never been exposed to the military before, so a tour of the ship was a chance for them to learn about service life.
It was an eye-opener for Director of Strategy Kristen McLeod, who has a reservist on her team. She said:
"I hadn't actually realised that a lot of the work he's doing here are things like leadership, learning how to manage people, deal with stressful situations, deal with pressure, take split second decisions, organise himself with structure and discipline, and all of those things are completely relevant to a career in the civil service."
The MoD is so keen to get employers on board, they can sign the Corporate Covenant, or win an Employer Recognition Scheme award, which come in bronze, silver and gold, reflecting the level of support a company offers the military community.
