Combat Training With The Marines
Forces TV cameras have been allowed inside one of Britain's most advanced combat training facilities.
It includes a purpose-built village where Royal Marines and their US counterparts are sharpening their skills for the frontlines of the future.
Exercise Tartan Eagle involves two weeks in the UK, and two weeks out in the US.
US Marine Captain Eric Stein summed up the training exercise:
"It's an opportunity for the US Marines to get training on the British weapon system, and to trade TTPs (Tactics, Techniques and Procedures)".
The idea is for British and US allies to share ideas and techniques to maximise their capabilities.
The first phase was completed up in the Scottish Highlands, where both sets of marines were conducting mountain training.
Now, they are in Northumbria, working on their mode of entry inside a training village.
The aim of this phase of the training is to sharpen the marines' close combat skills.
Captain Moxham, of the Royal Marines, said:
"I think it's always good when you integrate joint training, when you're able to (get) across a different viewpoint on entering and the clearance of rooms... once more, it's a different environment for the U.S. so that's good to get them exposed (and to give them a different challenge)".
Phase 2 of Tartan Eagle will take place in West Virginia in October.
