Council Apologises For Treatment Of Forces Cancer Family
A council has been criticised for the way it treated a military family whose son had cancer.
LCpl Christopher Chell's son Kyle was seven when he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
But Devon County Council decided not to pay for school transport for he and his sister after the family had to be moved into new forces accomodation further from the children's school.
Their previous housing conditions had been so poor that Kyle was twice hospitalised because of lung infections.
The authority previously signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant, which is meant to ensure service families are not disadvantaged because of their job.
The council has apologised and awarded £2,000 to the family.
