Daesh Confirms Death Of ‘Omar The Chechen’
One of Daesh’s top military commanders, known as "Omar The Chechen", has been killed, according to a news agency closely linked with the terror group.

The US said they had killed Omar al Shishani, who they described as the extremists' "minster of war", in an airstrike in Syria in March.

Daesh said he had been "martyred" after dying in combat in the Iraqi city of Shirqat, south of Mosul.

Shishani, who was born in Georgia, had become a prominent member of the group, recognised by his distinctive ginger beard.

He was a close military adviser to the Daesh leader, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, and came with experience of fighting as a Chechen rebel against Russian troops.

The militant group had denied his death after the Pentagon said he had been killed in March but observers say that may have been an attempt to allow them to appoint a successor.

The fighter was one of America's most wanted before his death.

Officials had offered a reward of up to $5 million for information that would lead to him being removed from the battlefield.

Iraqi forces are continuing to advance towards Mosul, which is the largest city that remains under Daesh control.
