Designing The Soldier Of The Future
At international military exercise Capable Logistician, outside the Hungarian town of Veszprem, a number of leading scientists and engineers gathered to demonstrate the latest in equipment and technology.
High on the agenda was ways to conserve energy on the battlefield, and prevent the need for vast quantities of fuel – often an enemy target in the past. Militaries from various NATO and NATO contributing nations also demonstrated logistic capabilities in a large-scale live fire exercise.

Ambassador Sorin Ducaru, Assistant Secretary General of NATO”s Emergency Security Challenges Division:
“NATO Smart Energy is about empowering the soldier of the future and an important missions enabler for the modern military. It reduces cost and risks of military operations, as well as the environmental footprint of the military.”
NATO’s Smart Energy programme began in 2011 and aims to improve the energy efficiency of Allied armed forces through a wide range of means such as the increased use of renewable energy and better energy management.
