Marines Take The Ice Test

Marines have been testing their resolve by breaking the ice in Norway.

Norwegian soldiers urged the U.S Marines to jump in to freezing waters as they demonstrated the effects of icy water on the body in the valley of Osterdalen.

The training is leading up to the Cold Response 16 exercise at the end of the month to improve the military’s capability to operate in cold-weather environments.

The exercise will include 12 NATO allies and partners and more than 16,000 troops.

It will include combat vehicles such as M1A1 tanks, light armoured vehicles and amphibious assault vehicles that have been stored in climate-controlled caves throughout central Norway.

The two nations have a long history of friendly relations, with both having helped to found NATO in 1949.
