Military Plans “Space Command”

The military has revealed plans for a Star-Trek style holographic “space command”.
The command and control centre would give US commanders real-time information about the location of satellites and space stations orbiting the Earth.
The Defence Advances Research Projects Agency (DARPA) says the system, called Hallmark, could help monitor enemy threats in space.
The agency’s director of the Tactical Technology Office, which oversees the project said:
“We envision a system that would fuse information from diverse sources and vastly reduce the overall time required to make and execute decisions and observe results.”
“For example, an intuitive user interface incorporating 3-D visualization technology would present complex information in novel ways and provide commanders with unprecedented awareness and comprehension.”
DARPA claims commanders are using “outdated tools” and processes to execute military operations in space despite the environment becoming “more complex and chaotic”.
Following initial testing, the Hallmark Space Evaluation and Analysis Capadbilty will be located in North Virginia.
It is intended to provide “development, integration, modelling and simulation, and realistic testing of software and decision-support processes relevant to space command and control. It would also eventually contribute to the rapid integration of technology into future space enterprise command and control systems.”
