Police Close Road In Search For Corrie
UPDATE: Suffolk Police have confirmed that 'no new information has been revealed that will assist with the inquiry as a result of today's searches'.
Original Story Below:
Police have closed a section of road as they continue their search for missing RAF serviceman Corrie McKeague.
One lane of the A14 has been closed east of Bury St Edmunds, between Moreton Hall and Rougham junctions, to allow search teams from Suffolk Police to search the roadside.
The search will cover a mile and a half stretch of road and is expected to continue into the afternoon.
Corrie was last seen on CCTV walking along Brentgovel Street in Bury St Edmunds at 03:25 on 24 September after a night out.
Police believed that the 23-year-old had attempted to walk the nine miles back to his base at RAF Honington but the stretch of road they are searching is not on that route.
Corrie’s uncle, Tony Wringe, has previously criticised the police search and claimed some leads may not have been followed up in a "cost-constrained" operation.
His mother, Nicola Urquhart, has defended the operation, however.
Police say they have spoken to dozens of people and followed hundreds of lines of inquiry but continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
They searched a bin lorry last month after analysis showed Corrie's phone had moved between Bury St Edmunds and Barton Mills on the morning he disappeared.
The phone was not found.
Norwich City Football Club fans have been handing out posters during recent matches with images of the RAF man and Facebook and Twitter pages have been set up appealing for information to help in the search.
