Russian Tu-95 Bear Crashes in Khabarovsk Region

A Tupolev Tu-95MS Bear strategic bomber has crashed during a training flight in Russia's far-eastern Khabarovskiy region, making it the sixth aircraft lost in as many weeks for the Russian Air Force.

Authorities have reportedly deployed an Antonov An-12 aircraft and two Mi-8 helicopters to search for the seven crew members that ejected before the crash.
“The flight was being conducted without ammunition. The plane fell in deserted area, there is no destruction on the ground,” said a statement from the ministry.
Khabarovsk lies nearly 500 miles north of the eastern city of Vladivostok.

The aircraft was unarmed when it crashed in a deserted area in Khabarovsk. A source told TASS news agency that the crash occurred because three of the plane's propulsion systems failed.

The loss of the bomber comes after a series of military aircraft crashes this summer. Just last week the entire SU-24 fleet was grounded after one crashed while taking off, killing both pilots on board. In June a Su-34 bomber ran off the runway upon landing and overturned only hours after a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near its base in Astrakhann.
