Russian TV Forecasts 'Excellent Weather For Bombing’ in Syria

Russian TV has taken its partisan coverage of air strikes in Syria to another level. 

Using maps and tables, the presenter provides up-to-date weather forecasts for its fighter jets bombing Syria, explaining that the timing of the “air operations” as being “well chosen” due to Syria’s favorable October climate.

The presenter on the state-owned Rossiya 24 news channel told viewers that Syria’s weather in October was “ideal for carrying out operational sorties”, before going into the finer details...

 

'Perfect' Weather Conditions To Bomb Syria, Says Russian State TV

The presenter describes the 'fighter-jet' forecast in an ordinary fashion. 

“From a meteorological perspective, the time chosen for the start of the operation was very fortunate, [The climate] in October in Syria will very advantageous for pilots”, she said, pointing out low wind speed and near-perfect visibility with very little rain, falling once every ten days. Temperatures also rarely rise over 35 Celsius, at which point it becomes difficult to conduct airstrikes.

The report included aerial footage of a Russian airstrike in Syria last week, which the weathercaster claimed was “the successful bombing of large bases and commanding facilities, where the fighters coordinate a number of their attacks”.

The presenter stressed the need to move quickly, however, due to dust storms forecast in the coming weeks.

Russia's weather has been known to play politics in the past, with TV channels moving quick to include Crimea in daily forecasts after it was annexed by Moscow in March last year. 
 
Forecasters on Rossiya 24 warned of clouds gathering over eastern Ukraine and a “wind of change” shortly after pro-Kremlin protesters declared a people’s republic in the city of Donetsk in April last year.
