The last major review of UK defence strategy and spending took place five years ago. Announced by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government of the time, it will not be remembered fondly by those in the military world.

With the government having pledged to reduce the UK's deficit, it saw a 7.7% real-terms reduction in the Ministry of Defence's budget over four years.

But was this year different? In Michael Fallon's own words, "SDSR 2015 opens a new chapter for defence" but to what extent? 

We look at poll results, statistics and cut through to the facts for this year's Strategic and Security Defence Review.

The UK is now the 5th largest defence spender in the world, and according to some reports, has once again reasserted itself as a military power

But what did you think?
