Six British Veterans Jailed In India

Six former British servicemen have been sentenced to five years in prison by an Indian court after being convicted of breaking gun laws.

They were working for an American company, AdvanFort, providing anti-piracy protection when their ship MV Seaman Guard Ohio, was detained and weapons were found.

The company insists the ship was in international waters and said that any weapons were solely for its security.

All 35 sailors and guards on the boat received five year sentences and were ordered to pay 3,000 rupees – approximately £30.

This includes the six former soldiers - Nick Dunn from Northumberland, Billy Irving from Argyll, Ray Tindall from Chester, Paul Towers from East Yorkshire, John Armstrong from Wigton in Cumbria and Nicholas Simpson from Catterick.

It's a decision which will no doubt disappoint and shock those who were expecting a different outcome and have fought hard for their release.

Kate Gerbeau spoke to Nick Dunn's MP, Ian Lavery, and asked him for his reaction to the sentence...
