Team Invincible Take On The World
Two former servicemen have successfully completed their fundraising challenge to run seven marathons, on seven continents, in seven days.
Luke Wigman and Ibi Ali are raising money for the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC), and after a full day's rest, they've spoken to Forces TV about their incredible achievement.
Former Captain in the Yorkshire regiment, Ibi Ali, said:
“It’s done! I’m delighted to have managed this epic challenge in aid of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre. There were some really tough times – Dubai was a real struggle due to the heat – but the motivation of helping build the DNRC got me to every finish line".
Completing their last run in Manly, Australia in four hours, Ibi also said that he and running mate Luke had been incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to do this:
"Unfortunately, some who served with us aren’t as lucky following their injuries, and it’s for those men and women that we urgently need the DNRC. That’s why we did this crazy challenge, pushing our bodies beyond the limit, to help repair the bodies of the seriously wounded in future. If you can, please help us do that by visiting invincible.org.uk”.
Luke Wigman, formerly a paratrooper in the RAF, said:
“What a tough week – mentally as well as physically. It was certainly worth it though – all the pain, the brutal conditions, and the lack of sleep – knowing that it was all for the DNRC".
Luke called the challenge a privilege, and said that comparative challenge of some other veterans recovering from their injuries was much tougher:
"We both realise that we’ve been lucky to be putting one foot in front of the other for the past week. Seeing the trauma people go through has made me made me determined to do what I can to help them in their recovery; the DNRC will be the best place in the world (for them) to go through that. I hope people see what we’ve done and give what they can to this fantastic cause".
