Ticket To Ride On Two Wheels: Commemorating VE Day

After the suicide of Adolf Hitler on April 30th 1945 the war-weary British wasted no time in rejoicing rather than waiting for the official day of celebration on the 8th May. After years of austerity, rationing, destruction and incalculable losses, huge crowds gathered in London to celebrate.

70 years on, a troupe of motorcycle enthusiasts will remember that same sense of celebration felt by the European people by travelling across the continent, taking in historical landmarks along the way to celebrate the significant anniversary.

The trip will take the group two weeks starting from Maidstone on the 25th April. The route will take them to such landmarks as Biggin Hill in Kent, before crossing the Channel to Dunkirk, France, Arnhem in Holland and the POW camp Colditz Castle, Germany, in a bid to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

They will be raising those funds by riding in a company of classic military motorcycles. The troupe will consist of 6 Triumphs and 2 Harley Davidson's (one of which is painted with USAF livery) - These will represent the allied air forces during the Second World War.
