WATCH: Soldiers Challenge Schoolchildren To Build Rocket Car
Soldiers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) have been inspiring school children with a special rocket car challenge at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015.
It's part of their role as educational ambassadors for the Bloodhound SSC (SuperSonic Car) project.
It's hoped the car, which is driven by serving RAF fighter pilot Andy Green and powered by the supersonic Eurojet EJ200 engine usually found in the Air Forces’ fastest strike fighter, the Typhoon FGR4, will eventually be able to set a new World Land speed record of 1,000mph.
Full marks to @BLOODHOUND_SSC for the kids rocket car build at #Goodwood. Fun, not too head-scratching and v engaging pic.twitter.com/uPbLhleRzC

REME have been working on its systems integration, whilst 71 (IR) Squadron of the RAF have been building the tail fin.
The children, meanwhile, were tasked with building their own rocket car from a block of foam - moulding and shaping it into the most aerodynamic shape possible.
