WWII Child Internees Reunited On HMS Belfast

A group of Second World War child internees have been reunited on the warship where they celebrated the end of the conflict.

HMS Belfast threw dozens of children, who'd been interned in Shanghai during the war, a party to celebrate their freedom.

It gave some of them the chance to enjoy treats like chocolate and sticky buns for the first time, which they'd been denied during their harsh period in captivity.

Sailors on board the ship rigged up amusements like slides and coconut shies for the children to enjoy - and now some of them have been reunited seven decades on.

The Royal Navy light cruiser is now a museum ship moored permanently in the River Thames and operated by the Imperial War Museum.
