Blind Veteran Climbing To The Paralympics

A veteran who lost his sight after his service is aiming to compete for Team GB's climbing team.

Former RAF parachute instructor Garry Morrison became blind after catching chicken pox - but he's not letting that get in the way of his aim to compete at the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Garry is training hard - as he aims to become a world-class rock climber at the next Paralympics in two and a half years time after losing his sight in 2015.

Blind Veteran Climbing On The Path To The Paralympics

Although Garry has only been climbing for around a year he's making good progress in his training.

His training partner and his coaches have seen a steady improvement over the last few months.

Garry's being supported by a number of service charities as well as St Andrew's University where he trains.

He hopes his story will help motivate others living with sight loss.

"This has never been done before, someone blind climbing at this level... I just want to prove to folk it can be done."
