Former champion turned head coach oversees next generation of Army Boxing
Former Army boxing star Sergeant Chez Nihell is overseeing the next generation of Army Boxing after he succeeded Shane Sadler as Army Boxing head coach this year.
Sgt Nihell brings valuable experience from his own impressive career as a boxer, which included winning the English Super Heavyweight title before enjoying a short spell in the professional ranks, where he remained undefeated.
Now as the new Army Boxing head coach, he is delighted to be overseeing the current crop of Army boxers at their training base in Aldershot.
He said: "I have been back here as a boxer, team captain, then I came back and was head coach for the development team.
"And now coming back full circle as head coach of the elite team, I am delighted to be in this seat, and I am looking forward to the season ahead."
Taking on the head coaching role, Sgt Nihell inherits a team that looks younger and more inexperienced than in previous years but is optimistic about the potential the new crop of Army boxers will bring to the ring in the years to come.
He said: "We have got quite a young team now, we've dropped the average age from 28 to 23 which is really good.
"We have got the next generation of Army boxers coming through, they are quite junior in terms of elite terms, some of them have not long gone from development boxers to elite.
"So it's about clocking up that experience, get them as much exposure to sparring as we can and get them out to as many shows as we can.
"We've got a busy season ahead, so I'm looking forward to it."
Sgt Nihell's first test as head coach will be when the Army boxing team faces the Bahrain Royal Guard in Catterick in November.
