
British Army Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu rising star wins World Championship bronze medal

Army Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) rising star Bombardier Joshua Gibbs has won a bronze medal at the 2024 IBJJF World Championships in California.
Bdr Gibbs, who serves in the Royal Artillery, earned his world championship bronze medal in the brown belt ultra-heavyweight division.
He defeated two opponents, both by submission, to get through to the semi-finals where he won his medal.
Bdr Gibbs's bronze medal makes him the most successful BJJ athlete in the UK Armed Forces on record, ranking him number 4 in the world and number 1 in the UK in his category.
His previous achievements also include two European Championship gold medals as well as gold medal-winning performances at the British Championships, Army Championships, Inter-Services and Armed Forces, Veterans and Emergency Services Championships.
In 2023, Bdr Gibbs was selected for a full time Sport Residual Manning PID by Army Sport, enabling him to train in BJJ full-time.
