British Army surfers rule the waves with big wins at the Inter Services Championships
The British Army have bagged the big prizes, including the overall team title, at the 2026 Inter Services Championships which took place at Watergate Beach in Cornwall.
The competition consisted of budding surfers from across the three services, who all convened to one of the most popular and premier hubs in the UK for surfing.
The open competition was the only category that got away from the Army however, with the Royal Navy's Leading Hand Jake Sage winning the gold, preventing an all-Army podium lockout.
But the depth in the Army team shone through in the remaining categories however, with their best result coming in the longboard competition with Signaller Max Payne winning the gold over his Army teammate Captain Josh Hughes.
The RAF's Flight Lieutenant Connell Alexander took the bronze medal, bumping down Private David Pasco to, again, prevent an all-Army podium.
The Army also dominated in the women's competition, with Lance Corporal Ellie Payne and Lance Corporal Fran Sayer going 1-2 on the podium, with the Navy's Sub-Lieutenant Leni Milne taking bronze.
In the bodyboard competition, the Army once again took the gold with Major Scott Rheeder standing on the top step.
Able Rate Dan Thomas from the Navy and Chief Technician Sherlock from the RAF rounded off the medal positions, making it the only tri-service podium of the competition.
With the Army winning three of the four categories at this year's Inter Services, they also take the overall team title – which they regain back from the Royal Navy who they conceded it to in 2025.
