Adjutant General's Corps hold off Royal Logistic Corps to win Edwards Cup
The Adjutant General's Corps (AGC) have won the Edwards Cup after beating the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) 2-1 in the Women's Corps Final at Cirencester Town.
The game was set up as a repeat of the final two years ago, where the AGC beat the RLC 4-2, and the third time in four years that these two teams have met in the Edwards Cup Final.
The RLC showed better attacking play in the first half, but it was the AGC who scored the opening goal thanks to a brilliant left footer from Rosie Burridge from 18 yards out.
Veteran player Krissy Wright almost made it two as half time approached, but her shot was parried into the post by RLC keeper Holly Clarke.
But moments later, a brilliantly controlled ball straight through the middle by Pyper Grove made it 2-0 for the AGC.
In the second half, the RLC pushed hard for goals and they were eventually rewarded.
A surging run down the left from Polly Pellow ended with a low cross turned in at the near post by Evie Litchfield.
But despite their best efforts, the RLC couldn't find a way to equalise and it was the AGC who held on for a 2-1 win.
RLC goal-scorer Pellow was named Player of the Match.
AGC player-manager Captain Krissy Wright told BFBS Sport that the team remained focused on the game despite a 2-0 lead at half-time.
She said: "I mean we're really good at doing that being up in a game.
"But we spoke at half time and we spoke about concentrating and focusing on the game and not taking that 2-0 lead and thinking that was the game over.
"The RLC are a quality team and we knew that they'd come all guns blazing in that second half.
"I love Corps football, I've played Corps football since I joined up which was a fair few years ago, and for me, this cup, I'm just so, so proud of the girls, I'm proud of our coaching team and every single girl that's been involved this season.
"For me, I will play Corps football until my legs say no, but I'm really, really proud and over the moon."
