RAF Coningsby's Four-Goal Hero On Semi-Final Wonder Goal: 'I Actually Think I Meant It'

RAF Coningsby are through to the RAF Cup final and it was a four-goal haul of eye-catching strikes that particularly caught the eye.

Jack Debnam scored all of the Coningsby goals in their 4-2 semi-final win over RAF Marham.

Debnam's goals ranged from a close-range strike to lobbing the goalkeeper from outside of the penalty area.

The pick of them was a tremendous control, turn and shot from the outside of the boot which flew into the top corner.

"I actually think I meant it, which a lot of people who know me will know that's not true," he said.

"I did mean it but for something like that to happen is unheard of for me.

"It came off like I thought it would.

"A lot of people know me and play with me – they know I'm not the most technical player.

"That's done me the world of good by the way.

"You've got that on tape as well?"

Debnam thinks the Coningsby team are not just going to settle for getting to the final and that they want to perform at the showpiece event.

"The aim was to get to the final," he said. "I wasn't here last year but they lost 5-4 and that's what the manager kept on drilling in.

"We didn't want to get beat again on our own turf.

"It's good to get to the final, not just get there, but we want to win.

"We don't want to go all that way to the final and not perform. That's what we will aim to do," he added.

Debnam's hat-trick goal was his chip of the goalkeeper – a similar strike to his score in the quarter-final against RAF Shawbury.

Is it becoming a trademark for the player?

"I think it’s just getting tired," Debnam joked. "The longer the game goes on, that's what you have to do – take it early.

"It's just I saw the goalkeeper off his line and I knew what I was going to do.

"Last week's was a bit easier because it was bouncing.

"It was nice to seal the hat-trick that way," he added.
