RAF Footballers Working On 'New Style Of Play'

Sergeant Cat Beaver has revealed that the RAF Ladies football team are working on a "new style of play".

The team returned to action in a 4-1 loss to Swindon Town, but Sgt Beaver was pleased with the performance.

"Last season, it was different tactics," she said.

"This season, we’ve been introduced to a new style of play which we are working on.

"It’s quite pleasing in places that that was coming out so yeah, there’s a lot of positives to take away."

New boss Chief Technician James Bryden is looking to bring a new era to the team since taking over from Michelle Harvey-Perkins in the summer.

Regarding the loss, CT Bryden put the result down to a lack of preparation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: "I’ve been nothing but proud of their effort representing not only the Royal Air Force but the military as a whole.

"We haven’t had sport for six months and we are playing a young, developing and exciting team."

The RAF took the lead in the 12th minute but could not hold on.

"We’re playing a tier four team who have had a full pre-season and the thing that got the better of us was the legs.

"That’s something, as our first meet of the season, that we can work on."

Senior Aircraftwoman Chelsea Ansley made her debut for the Air Force at Swindon and also felt the lack of a pre-season was key.

"They’ve been training and had a lot of pre-season," she said.

"This has been our first week back so everyone is getting quite used to it.

"We've learnt a lot of things during the week so it’s been really good to put it into an actual game."
