Royal Air Force soar to victory against Army in first U23s Inter Services clash

Watch: The Royal Air Force and the British Army clash in the U23 Inter Services opener.

The Royal Air Force have taken the first win of the U23 Inter Services as they soared to a 2-0 win against the British Army at Rayner's Lane FC.

The Light Blues gained the advantage in the first half after being awarded a penalty, which was successfully taken by Dean Higham to give the RAF an early 1-0 lead.

The Army had several chances to level the scoreboard, but missed opportunities saw them go into half time without any points on the board.

In the second half, the RAF seemed to grow in confidence as they were able to dominate ball possession throughout.

That persistence soon paid off, as Logan Buick ran straight through an open door and calmly slotted home a second goal for the Light Blues to extend their lead to 2-0.

As the final whistle sounded, the RAF took home the win and became the first winners of the Neil Hope Trophy, one of three newly commissioned trophies for the U23 Inter Services.

The Army now head home to Aldershot where they face reigning champions the Royal Navy on 14 February.
