The Royal Navy senior women's football team met former England Lioness Ellen White after being crowned champions at the inaugural five-a-side CSSC Women's Football Festival.

The Civil Service Sports Council contest consisted of 18 teams from across the public and private sectors and the Armed Forces to compete for the title at the England FA's famous training ground, St. George's Park.

The Navy played over eight games, including a 4-0 win in the final to become overall champions, where afterwards they got to meet England women's all-time goal scorer, talking tactics and the opportunities created by Royal Navy Football.

Royal Navy midfielder Ellie Bishop was named player of the tournament in recognition of her outstanding performance.

She told NavyFit: "It was a brilliant day and a great experience to be able to play at St George's Park and to show Ellen White what Royal Navy Women's football has to offer.

"I was shocked at getting player of the tournament with so many great players competing, however it is an achievement I'm proud of, and one that could not happen without the coaches and players around me.

"Hopefully this trophy can be the first of many this season."

Winning the competition, the Navy was presented with the all-new Duchess of Gloucester trophy, presented by the Duchess of Gloucester herself.

Speaking to NavyFit, Royal Navy Women's Manager Glenn Long said: "The ladies were outstanding throughout to win this highly competitive tournament. They played some very good football and had a ruthless streak in front of goal, scoring an impressive 28 goals in just eight games.

"This weekend's achievement highlights their strong start to the season and demonstrates their prowess on and off the field."
