UKAF women earn a comfortable victory over the Irish Defence Forces

Watch: UKAF women take on the Irish Defence Force in Lisburn, Northern Ireland

The UK Armed Forces women's football team have defeated the Irish Defence Forces with a commanding 7-0 victory to win the Perpetual Friendship Trophy in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

A hat-trick for outgoing UKAF player Anthea Kaptein, goals by Jeorgia Carr and Abigail Hayes and two own goals by the Irish Defence Forces resulted in UKAF winning by a clear margin as well as a clean sheet.

The Irish Defence Forces played defensively in the first half, at times frustrating the UKAF side where attempts at scoring goals did not materialise.

That was until the Irish number 18, Saoirse Sands, collected a UKAF corner kick and mistakenly headed the ball towards their own goal.

That Irish own goal put UKAF up 1-0 at half time.

In the second half, UKAF came back roaring with two goals scored within two minutes by Anthea Kaptein and then followed by Jeorgia Carr.

In an attempt to defend a charging Kaptein, the Irish Defence Forces' Shannon Thomas scored an unfortunate own goal to extend UKAF's lead to 5-0.

The all-experienced Kaptein was not done after that, scoring two more goals in the dying minutes of the game to complete her hat-trick.

Despite a slow start in the first half, the UKAF women changed gears in the second half to win by a comfortably 7-0 margin over their Irish opposition.
