UKAF men defeated by Germany in thrilling Remembrance fixture at Kingsholm

WATCH: UKAF men defeated by Germany in thrilling Remembrance fixture

The UK Armed Forces rugby union team have been defeated by the German National Team at this year's Remembrance fixture at Kingsholm Stadium.

The players lined up at the home of Gloucester Rugby to the sound of the sound of the Last Post which was then followed by a minute silence.

As the game got underway the Germans wasted no time to get themselves on the scoresheets with Hassan Rayan diving over the line first.

That then followed more German tries by Markus Bachofer and then Rayan once again to give them a 0-17 cushion as half time approached.

Already on the back foot, the UKAF side needed to produce something before the half time whistle, and it would be Ben Mallett who would come up with the goods and got the home team onto the scoresheet at half time with the score sitting at 5-17.

UKAF returned for the second half wanting to start with a clean slate, and immediately they flicked that switch with a try by Will Riglesford.

But Germany immediately responded, within a minute of conceding a try to UKAF, Oliver Stein kicked the ball over the tryline and darted over to dot it down for another try.

Ryan Crowley managed to swerve past the German defence to give UKAF another well-negotiated try, but once again, the German's hit back immediately with Felix Lammers dotting over the line, much to UKAF's frustration.

Crowley gave the team hope by scoring a brace later into the game, but Germany kept on proving that they were good at responding to their opponent with Shawn Ingle and Leo Wolf giving the visitors a 26-43 victory as the full time whistle sounded.

Ryan Crowley was named Player of the Match and was presented with the Steff Rees trophy, which was commissioned in memory of the UKAF player who tragically died whilst playing at the IDRC tournament in France last year.
