Former Royal Engineer Gregg Stevenson has won gold in the PR2 mixed double sculls at the World Rowing Cup II in Varese, Italy.

Winning gold with his teammate, Paralympic gold medalist Lauren Rowles, the pair finished way ahead of the field to record their second consecutive world best time of 8.01.59.

Their World Cup gold medal comes after the pair won gold at the European Championships last month.

A double amputee after losing his legs to an IED blast while on patrol in Helmand Province in 2009, Stevenson took up rowing in 2012, and went on to compete at the Invictus Games in 2014.

The pair hope to qualify for next year's Paralympic Games in Paris.
