Success for AGC and REME's hockey players at Army Indoor Inter Corps Championships

Watch: Highlights of the AGC and REME's wins

The Adjutant General's Corps and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers have been successful at the Army Indoor Inter Corps Championships.

The AGC claimed the women's crown while REME took the men's title.

The Adjutant General's Corps went into the deciding game of the women's indoor Inter Corps hockey competition knowing victory over the Royal Logistic Corps would see them crowned champions.

Following a stalemate in the opening half, a super solo run from AGC skipper Emily Lewis broke the deadlock after the break.

Lewis fired her side further in front moments later. This time, the staff sergeant who plays her club hockey for Surrey side Woking, slotted home goal number two after being teed up by teammate Heidi Jelly.

The goalscorer almost turned provider as Lewis plucked out a pass to Clare Griffiths who couldn't make contact with the ball. Instead, the RLC worked their way towards their opponents' goal before the onrushing May Percival grabbed a consolation score for the RLC.

With neither side adding to their tally, the AGC held on for the win.

Meanwhile, the REME won the men's title with victory over the Royal Signals. A short corner crashing into the Signalmens' crossbar set the tone.

Minutes later, the REME were in front. Some patient build-up play saw them work the ball across the back line before Scott Rawlings spotted an opportunity to fizz a pass up the middle, and Matt Hutson got the slightest touch to steer his effort past Signals shot stopper Alfie Kempton.

Indoor hockey is fast and furious, and players often put their bodies on the line. Oli Sanderson's eye-watering intervention took him a few minutes to recover from.

The REME continued to dominate the first half. Duncan Moshall's rapid counterattack had the Signallers on the back foot and ended with him adding his side's second goal.

The men in yellow pressed for further goals and were awarded a flick-on goal when Kempton gave away a penalty.

But Kempton kept his cool to redeem himself with a smart stop from Moshall to keep the score down to 2-0 at the interval.

Fully restored from his earlier low blow, Sanderson produced a moment of magic in the second half firing home for one of the goals of the tournament, but it failed to spark a Signals fightback.

Without adding to the scoreboard, the REME were content to close out the contest. By the end, they were champions for 2024.

With the silverware secure, the focus now for the players is next month's Inter Services indoor championships.
