Two years to go: Birmingham celebrates milestone ahead of 2027 Invictus Games

Two years to go: Birmingham celebrates Invictus milestone

It's just two years until Birmingham hosts the 2027 Invictus Games, and the organisers have celebrated the milestone by announcing a new 'Champions' programme.

The initiative is a chance for small and medium-sized enterprises to be front and centre of the Games.

The summer of 2027 will see the Invictus community return to the UK, and CEO of the Birmingham Games, Helen Helliwell, is excited for it to happen.

"It's super exciting to reach two years to go," she said. "I know it's going to go really, really quickly. We're building the team up and making some really exciting plans.

"It's really starting to go and build momentum now, which is really exciting."

Birmingham is a special place for many British veterans who will have been at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as part of their recovery processes.

The city hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and, equally, the aim is to use the culture and diversity in the area to boost the Invictus Games.

Halliwell said: "[Birmingham] are really embracing and I'm so pleased that we've had so much support from our Birmingham community and all of our stakeholders there.

"The team have been doing lots of engagement with Birmingham broadly. I want the NEC, which is the venue we're hosting the Games at, to be packed every single day.

"We'll have a festival atmosphere every single day. I want the diversity of Birmingham to come and perform for us. Music, arts and different things going on every evening."
