Kerenza Bryson misses out on World Cup medal in first event since Paris Olympics

British Army reservist Kerenza Bryson has finished fourth at the UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Cup in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, in her first competitive start since the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Having achieved qualification into the women's final, Bryson shone in the fencing round where she fenced with controlled aggression to make it to the final bout, where she defended well to come out on top by a 5-3 margin.

In the newly established obstacle racing round, which was brought in as a replacement for the equestrian event after the Paris Games, Bryson clocked the 15th fastest time of 42.05 to remain in the top six.

In the swimming event, she put down the tenth fastest time of 01:05.15 - keeping her within touching distance of a medal in sixth place.

The laser run event proved challenging for all competitors with high winds playing havoc at the shooting range - to which Bryson ran into difficulties on her second visit.

She finished with the seventh fastest time of 11:40.96 - pushing her up to fourth place to just miss out on a podium place.

Türkiye's Ozyuksel Ilke took the gold ahead of Hungary's Guzi Blanka and Egypt's Elgindy Ganah.

Bryson has her sights on competing at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, after she finished in a disappointing 9th place in Paris

She is a reservist officer with 265 Port and Maritime Regiment Royal Logistic Corps.

She's also a qualified doctor and the 2024 UKAF Sportswoman of the Year.
