Meet The Two Forces Women Representing Wales At The Commonwealth Games
Wales has included two forces players in its Commonwealth Games women's rugby sevens squad.
The Army's Captain Gemma Rowland and the RAF's Senior Aircraftwoman Sian Williams will line up for the nation when the tournament gets underway on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Forces athletes have a strong history of playing rugby sevens on the big stage and now, as the women's form of the game makes its Commonwealth Games debut, that tradition will continue.
Wales, however, has been drawn into the toughest possible group, along with England, Fiji and Olympic champions and hosts Australia.
But according to SAC Williams, Wales are going with high hopes:
"We're going out to medal. I don't think anyone ever goes to a Commonwealth Games without that in the forefront of their minds."
If Wales are going to spring a few surprises Down Under they'll need to dig deep.
Capt Rowland, of the Royal Artillery, told Forces Network she believes having two members of the squad with a military background is a huge asset:
"The things that we've learned through our military careers, like handling emotions, working under pressure, decision-making under pressure, that we've experienced on operations, go hand-in-hand with this experience."
At Inter-Services level the pair are fierce rivals but as international teammates, they could forge a winning combination.
The only drawback about their selection for Wales is that both players will miss Inter-Services showdown between the RAF and the Army at RAF Halton.
For SAC Williams, the international call-up is extra special, however, as the RAF marks its 100th anniversary.
Wales will get the chance to put that hard work on the training pitch into practice when they play Australia on April 13.
