Military rally drivers tackle the dusty trails of the Trackrod Rally in North Yorkshire

Watch: The Armed Forces rally team races in the Trackrod Rally

The Armed Forces Rally Team have been in action at the Trackrod Rally where military drivers and co-drivers competed in the Land Rover Challenge.

The opening stage of the North Yorkshire-based rally saw drivers and co-drivers tackle a 14-mile stretch of the Denby Forest in the dark.

The next morning in daylight, military pair Corporal Danny Hedges and Lance Corporal Ash Wilcock led the forces competition overnight.

Elsewhere, Corporal Jack Bean and Lance Corporal Patrick Amey managed to remain in front of Royal Engineers pair, Ben Hall and debutant Tyler Colderley.

Out of a field of 180 entrants, the civilian pair of Matthew Hirst and Declan Dear dominated their fellow competitors.

The Doncaster-based driver powered his Skoda to first place overall to win the Trackrod for 2024.

Cpl Hedges, who has enjoyed success at this event in recent years, was left disappointed when his Land Rover suffered a gearbox issue, forcing him to limp home as runner-up.

Instead, it was Jack Bean and Patrick Amey who took the class win and recorded an impressive finish of 58th overall.

The team will next head to north Wales for the Cambrian Rally, their final race of the year.
