
Navy powerlifters enjoy national and international success

Royal Navy Powerlifters have enjoyed great results at the BDFPA Men's National Championships and the IPF European Bench Press Championships.
Four Royal Navy athletes picked up medals at the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association (BDFPA) Men's National Championships.
PO Jimmy Cain placed third in the 110kg category with a 692.5kg total, where he achieved a new personal best in the 180kg bench.
AET Dan White picked up a podium place for the Royal Navy in the under 90kg category, whilst teammate COP Liam Watson just missing out after placing outside the top three.
CPO Chris Martin lifted in the 110kg Equipped category as the only competitor in his weight class, where he managed to set a new British, European and World record in his age category, as well as the open British record.
CPO Martin, who was instrumental in forming the Royal Navy Powerlifting Association and is the current chairman, totalled 659kg, which saw him also win the best equipped lifter trophy.

Meanwhile, the Navy also had two athletes representing Team GB at the International Powerlifting Association (IPF) European Bench Press Championships in Bordeaux, France.
POPT Andy Davey won a bronze medal after successfully completing 3 lifts, with a 180kg Bench press in the Masters 1 category.
Meanwhile, PO Wesley McGuinness returned to the international stage for the first time since picking up a bicep injury last December, clearing three lifts and a final bench press of 187.5kg.
CPO Martin, PO Cain and AET White all qualified for the WDFPF World Powerlifting Championships in November this year, whilst the UKAF Powerlifting Championships take place at RAF Cosford on 27 September.
