Mica Moore receives shoutout from Lewis Hamilton after historic Olympic monobob result
Army reservist Private Mica Moore has achieved the best-ever result for a female Jamaican bobsledder at an Olympic Winter Games after finishing 14th in the women's monobob in Cortina.
Pte Moore, who is a reservist in the 157 Regiment RLC, saved her best run until her fourth and final heat after a turbulent third run dropped her down to 17th, and she posted her best time of 59.92 seconds to recover to a final standing of 14th place overall.
The 41-year-old women's monobob veteran, Elana Meyers Taylor from the United States, won the gold.
Pte Moore previously represented Team GB at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang and made the switch to compete for Jamaica in December 2024.
Her historic result ties the all-time Jamaican Olympic record previously set by the men's four-man bobsleigh team in Lillehammer 1994.
She reacted to her historic result with a celebratory post on social media.
"This journey for me was a journey of not giving up!" she said.
"A journey of rebuilding myself from the bottom. From low confidence, from missed training sessions, from a sport that almost broke my heart in two!
"I'm so proud to have represented my heritage and shown that Jamaica are a force on the world stage, not to be played with!
"No medals right now, but this finish feels like a medal to me."
Celebrity shoutouts
Pte Moore's result even caught the attention of Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, who gave a shoutout to Jamaica's bobsleigh team on his Instagram stories.
Jamaica's national bobsleigh team became famous when the story of the Caribbean nation's 1988 Winter Olympic four-man bobsleigh team was depicted in the 1993 American sports comedy film, Cool Runnings.

His post reads: "Massive shoutout to the Jamaican bobsleigh team, too.
"Ever since I was a kid they inspired me. I knew exactly what it felt like to be the odd one out who wasn't taken seriously.
"They've come so far, it's definitely time people understand this team means business."
The bobsleigh events continue in Cortina with the two-woman event and the two-man and four-man events, which features Royal Marine Commando Taylor Lawrence for Team GB.
