1 Signal Regiment (1SR) have won the first ever Army Units Champions League.

The inaugural final saw the Stafford-based unit take on Ripon-based 21 Engineer Regiment (21RE)

And the match didn't disappoint, with 1SR running out 3-2 winners after 90 minutes of end-to-end and entertaining football.

Despite falling behind in the first half, they fought back to lead 2-1 at half time.

A third goal for the Signallers cemented their lead in the second half.

The Engineers later pulled a goal back, however, to ensure a frantic final few minutes in search of an equaliser that ultimately never came.

The final was held at the Aldershot Military Stadium on Wednesday, after the 2016/17 divisional champions of the Southern, Northern, Midlands and Scottish Leagues were all involved earlier in the competition.
