Pulsating Final Sees Signallers Win First Army Units Champions League

1 Signal Regiment (1SR) have won the first ever Army Units Champions League.
The inaugural final saw the Stafford-based unit take on Ripon-based 21 Engineer Regiment (21RE)
And the match didn't disappoint, with 1SR running out 3-2 winners after 90 minutes of end-to-end and entertaining football.

Despite falling behind in the first half, they fought back to lead 2-1 at half time.

A third goal for the Signallers cemented their lead in the second half.

The Engineers later pulled a goal back, however, to ensure a frantic final few minutes in search of an equaliser that ultimately never came.

The final was held at the Aldershot Military Stadium on Wednesday, after the 2016/17 divisional champions of the Southern, Northern, Midlands and Scottish Leagues were all involved earlier in the competition.

The Army Football Association conceived the new tournament to identify the overall Army Units League Champions.
