A victory for the Royal Air Force in American Football marks the first time a service has won back-to-back championships.

The Mustangs won the inaugural title in 2023 with the Army claiming it the following year, but the light blues grabbed it back in 2025 and have now successfully defended that title.

In a tense and attritional game, neither side was on their best form, but the RAF led 0-9 at half time after a touchdown from wide receiver Lewis Truman and a three-point field goal kicked by Dylan Pole.

The ever-reliable Drew Newiss scored for the Army Jackals in the third quarter to bring the men in red within touching distance of the light blues 6-9, but Truman then claimed his second touchdown with an extra point added from the boot of Pole, to extend the RAF's lead to 6-16.

In the fourth quarter Elliot Knight slipped his way through the Army defence for a touchdown to make it 6-22.

The Jackals weren't done though – quarterback Martin Brown powered his way over to double the Army's score and Oliver Findlay followed that up with a brilliant two-point conversion to bring their tally to 14.

But it was the reigning, defending and now three-time champions who had the final word – Arthur Fox with the Mustangs' fourth touchdown and Pole adding the extra for the 14-29 win.

RAF Mustangs captain, Flight Sergeant Adam Hennessy, is already looking for more success from his team.

He said: "Just keep aiming to retain it, to really put an exclamation mark and be the most dominant team in the championship. We were the first team to win it, Army obviously then took it back off us, we then took it back, back-to-back now, we want to be the first team to threepeat."

All three teams have made vast improvements over the course of four years of inter services American football, but for now the RAF reign supreme.
