Army star Carrie Roberts signs with York Valkyrie for remainder of Super League season

Army Rugby League star and former England international Staff Sergeant Carrie Roberts has signed with York Valkyrie for the rest of the 2023 RFL Women's Super League season.
SSgt Roberts, who serves in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), departed from St Helens earlier this year to focus on her military career after a successful stint at the club, including winning the 2022 Betfred Women's Challenge Cup.
The centre also brings international experience and played in last year's World Cup, scoring a try in the 54-4 victory over Canada.
After signing, SSgt Roberts told York Valkyrie's website that she is targeting trophies this season.
She said: “I’m delighted to join the Valkyrie and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and hopefully helping the team bring home some silverware at the back-end of the season.
“I’ve really missed playing and being part of that team environment. I’m back in work full-time now with my job in the Army.
"Having been there since January, I’ve settled into the job now and felt like I had the opportunity to commit enough time back into Rugby League.
“So, I got in touch with Lindsay [Anfield, York Valkyrie's Director of Rugby] and the move stemmed from there."

A double-coded player, SSgt Roberts also made her return to playing for Army Rugby Union after her departure from St. Helens, but did not play in this year's Inter Services championships.
SSgt Roberts could make her York debut this Friday when Valkyrie take on her former club, St Helens, in a meeting of Betfred Women's Super League's top two.
