1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment have won the 2022 Army Premiership cup final in Aldershot.

A 19-17 win over 12 Regiment Royal Artillery meant it was a season to remember for 1 YORKS.

This was the first time a final has been held since 2019 due to COVID-19.

The Catterick-based side took a 9-0 lead in the first half through a trio of Matt Smart penalties but 12 Regt RA hit back before half-time.

Antonio Rede crossed over for an unconverted try but another Smart penalty meant it was 12-5 at the break.

In the second half, a flurry of tries led to a nail-biting finale.

Ken Dowding and Materi Waqanisau were on the scoresheet for 12 Regt RA but a Pita Ratukadreu converted try meant 1 YORKS led by two points.

There were no more scores in the match but a brawl between both sets of players almost resulted in the action being stopped.

Both teams ended with 14 men on the pitch but it was 1 YORKS who lifted the trophy.
