Army women retain Inter Service title after a dominant performance against the RAF

WATCH: Army women retain Inter Service title with win over RAF

The British Army women are the Inter Service champions for another year after a dominant performance against the Royal Air Force with a 47-12 victory at Kingsholm.

It is a continuation of the Army women's dominance in the Inter Service Championships who have won the title every year the championship has been played since 2019.

The Army struck first with a well-negotiated run by Manuqalo Komaitai to dot the ball done over the try line, with Courtney Pursglove adding the extras with the conversion.

But the RAF were quick to respond with a fantastic offload by Lucy Nye which was received by Daisy Aspinall, to get a try down for the RAF.

The Army then proved that they can also respond in quick fashion, with Lauren Brooks pushing through the RAF defensive line in their own 22 for another converted try.

The red shirts were on a roll, and Komaitai was let loose once again for her second try of the game, as RAF winger Kim Grundy was unable to stop her charge.

The RAF drove the Army back into their own 22 momentarily, until the Army managed to push themselves back where Komaitai was on hand once again, pushing through the RAF defence to score herself a hattrick.

With the clock running down to half time, the RAF once again managed to push the red shirts back into their 22, and Lucy Nye broke away from a maul to dot down over the line as both sides sit on 26-12 at the half time whistle.

As the teams returned for the second half, the Army were keen to bring a sharp response to that late RAF try in the first half, and Komaitai was let loose once again to dot down under the posts for her fourth try of the match.

The Army began to assert their dominance in this second half with back-to-back tries from Courtnery Pursglove and skipper Jade Mullen to stretch their lead even further to 47-12, with Pursglove once again adding in those conversions.

The RAF went into defensive play for the remainer of the match, but as the full-time whistle sounded, the Army were once again victorious with a commanding 47-12 victory.

For her performance, including scoring four tries, Army number 8 Manuqalo Komaitai was awarded Player of the Match.
