Royal Marine Commando Lance Corporal Taylor Lawrence has bagged two overall World Cup bronze medals as part of Great Britain's two-man and four-man bobsleigh teams in Lillehammer.

Overall World Cup medals are awarded once all eight races on the World Cup circuit are completed, and points are added together to create an overall result.

LCpl Lawrence pushed Brad Hall to a combined bronze in two-man bobsleigh, losing out only to Germany's two leading sleds.

The Royal Marine competed in six out of eight races on the World Cup circuit, with Gregg Cackett filling in for Lawrence twice.

Hall told the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association that being ranked third in the world is a "good place to be" ahead of next month's World Championships as well as the Olympics next year.

"It's great to be back on the overall podium," said Hall. "It means a lot to us all.

"Last year was a tough one with all the injuries but we've bounced back and shown that this is where we belong.

"We've been consistent all year and that's definitely a good place to be ahead of the World Championships next month and the Olympics next year," he added.

In the four-man bobsleigh event, Great Britain missed an overall four-man silver by the narrowest of margins, with Germany's Johannes Lochner pipping them to second place by just two points after he won race number seven in Lillehammer.

The team, which included Brad Hall, Taylor Lawrence, Leon Greenwood and Arran Gulliver, as well as Greg Cackett who featured in three races, ended their World Cup campaign with six medals, including two golds in Winterberg and St Moritz in January.

Speaking to British Bobsleigh, team member Arran Gulliver said: "We came into today wanting that overall silver, but we can't be too disappointed with bronze – it's more proof that we are in a great place heading into next month's World Championships and next year's Olympics.

"Winning overall World Cup medals doesn't come easily but we've proved week in, week out that we are among the best there is.

"We've shown we can beat the top two German sleds during the year, and we've won a medal at almost every time of asking.

"Brad's driven brilliantly all season, and he did that again today. We gave him a good start and our times at the top are improving all the time – which is exactly what we want as we look to peak for the Worlds in a few weeks."
