The head of the UK's military says he's "full of admiration" for the armed forces of Ukraine.

Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin made a 48-hour visit to Kyiv and met with his Ukrainian counterpart, General Zaluzhnyi.

Adm Radakin said his visit allowed him to "better understand the operational outlook" of Ukraine and understand how the UK "can help other international partners and allies assist the armed forces of Ukraine in the weeks and months ahead".

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) said it was "a privilege" to visit the Ukrainian capital and commended "their courage, resilience and ingenuity in confronting Russia's illegal & barbaric aggression".

In a post on Twitter, the CDS said: "A privilege to visit Kyiv and meet with my Ukrainian counterpart, General Zaluzhnyi. I am full of admiration for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and their courage, resilience & ingenuity in confronting Russia's illegal & barbaric aggression.

"My 48-hour visit allowed me to better understand the operational outlook and to discuss how the UK can continue to support Ukraine, and how we can help other international partners and allies assist the armed forces of Ukraine in the weeks and months ahead."

Watch: British troops train Ukrainian soldiers on Salisbury Plain.

The Royal School of Artillery has been training Ukrainian forces on how to use some of the weapons being delivered by Western allies to Ukraine's frontline to help defeat Russia.

The Ukrainian troops were given less than a day's notice that they were coming to the UK for training, with a mix of professional soldiers and mobile recruits coming straight from the frontline.
