The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) have made clear that Santa Claus will be tracked as he enters Canadian and US Airspace this Christmas.

“Whatever enters the airspace of Canada or the United States, we’ll see it, we’ll track it and we’ll take the appropriate action,” said Lieutenant General Christopher Coates, Deputy Commander of NORAD.

Every single flight in North America is tracked by the organisation based at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, and NORAD say they have been tracking Santa through all their 60 years of existence.

“NORAD is well known for its ability to track Santa,” said General Terence O’Shaughnessy.

“And if we can track Santa, you can imagine what else we can track.”

They were also keen to stress that they were ready to provide Santa with an escort, if necessary, as he carries out his important work.

“At a moment’s notice we have fighters that are ready to scramble and get airbourne within minutes,” explained Colonel Michael Valle, Commander 601st Air Operations Center.

No word yet on whether the Royal Air Force have similar plans to monitor Santa when he arrives in British airspace.
