What is the THAAD anti-missile system the US is sending to Israel?

Watch: All the gen on the THAAD anti-missile system

The US has confirmed that it will be sending a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) air defence system to Israel to help the country fend off attacks.

It is a highly accurate anti-missile system produced by the US firm Lockheed Martin, designed to counter incoming ballistic missiles and can track targets up to 1,900 miles away.

In the video above, BFBS Forces News takes a look at the THAAD to find out why the US would send the system to Israel – a move that is considered rare considering it will see US personnel and weapons systems in the country outside of military drills.
