Mercian Regiment Awarded Freedom of Crewe

Soldiers from the Mercian Regiment have celebrated being awarded the freedom of Crewe by parading through the town's centre.

The march in Cheshire is part of several events happening throughout the week across the regiment's recruiting area, as they prepare for deployment to Kenya later this year.

Around 60 soldiers from A Company, 2 MERCIAN were joined in the parade by Regimental Mascot, Swaledale ram Private Derby, whilst the salute was taken by local dignitaries including Mayor of Crewe, Councillor Pam Minshall.

Private Alex Capper, 26, from Crewe, said: “Parades through our home towns are very enjoyable, especially in your own town when family and friends are able to watch.

“I get a real sense of pride, and they allow the public to see another side to the Army.”
