Coronavirus: Combating Isolation With Messages Of Sunshine

An emotional plea has been put out by Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), for letters, videos and photos to be sent to the residents in their care homes to brighten their days during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The RBLI have a retirement village in Kent where 300 veterans and their spouses currently live, either in a care home or assisted living. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the residents are in lockdown for at least 12 weeks to help protect their health. Only their carers are allowed in.

Tilly Lambert-Lee, the Campaign Research Manager for the RBLI, spoke to BFBS Radio about the aim of the campaign to cheer up the residents. She said:

"Any little bits of sunshine will be very much appreciated."

People are being asked to send messages, videos and photos to [email protected] to help keep the resident's spirits up in these uncertain times. Messages and photos can include exciting things that children and adults have been doing in lockdown, or simply just well-wishes to the residents.

The messages will hopefully help the residents keep in touch and as Tilly Lambert-Lee said:

"... to feel that connection with the outside world."
