Former Para sets endurance world record in gruelling desert challenge

A former officer in the Parachute Regiment has become a world record holder, completing the gruelling Marathon des Sables in the Moroccan desert while wearing 10kg body armour.

Raising awareness for veterans' mental health, Jonny Mortimer Hendry told Forces News his body was degrading quicker than the other runners, with pain in his neck, hips, joints and feet.

He completed the 250km in 46 hours and 53 minutes, raising £50,000 for charity on what's known as the 'toughest foot race on earth'.
