Afghanistan veteran Mark Ormrod praises social media for recovery of stolen prosthetic legs

Mark Ormrod's prosthetic legs have been found down an alleyway after they were stolen from his car in west London.
The former Royal Marine and triple amputee discovered his vehicle had been broken into while it was parked in a disabled bay outside a Premier Inn in Chiswick – his legs and a bag of gym clothes had been stolen.
Filming the aftermath, showing shattered glass on the ground and panning to reveal his car's smashed rear window, he posted on X, saying: "Not the best start to my day!"
"The sad thing is to think that someone would break into a car parked in a disabled parking space and steal equipment someone needs to live independently and not even care ???"
Following his post on X, which has racked up nearly half a million views, a woman contacted him to say she had found his belongings in an alleyway.
The gold medal-winning Invictus Games athlete went back to X to say: "THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA! ... I now have everything back ???."
Mr Ormrod underwent a triple amputation – losing both legs and his right arm – after standing on an improvised explosive device while on a routine foot patrol in Afghanistan on Christmas Eve 2007.
He was the UK's first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict.
Mr Ormrod has gone on to become a motivational speaker and has tackled several incredible fundraiser challenges – raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for forces charities.
In 2020 he was awarded an MBE for services to the Royal Marines and veterans and he received the Freedom of the City of Plymouth in 2021 following a vote by Plymouth City Council.
